Athletic Field Cost & Budget Planning

A useful athletic-field budget starts with the site and scope. Turf material is only one part of the installed cost. Turf Our Field helps Oklahoma schools, communities and facility owners compare options with direct access to owner Brent Fassio.

What determines the cost of a turf field?

Field size, excavation, soil conditions, aggregate base, drainage, turf system, infill, optional padding and markings all affect the budget. Fencing, lighting, utilities, access, disposal, design and testing may be separate items. A price per square foot means little unless these inclusions are clear.

Full field, infield only or phased installation?

For baseball and softball, an infield-only option can focus investment on a heavily used area while retaining a grass outfield. A full-field conversion changes the scope substantially. Phased work should be planned together so drainage and transitions support the eventual design. Ask for separate options based on the same assumptions.

How do we compare proposals fairly?

Request an itemized scope showing site preparation, base, drainage collection and discharge, turf specifications, infill, padding, line markings, mobilization, testing and exclusions. Ask which unknown conditions are covered by allowances and how changes will be approved.

Plan beyond the installation price

Include routine grooming, debris removal, inspections, repairs, equipment, staff training and future surface replacement in your planning. Synthetic turf still needs maintenance. Compare lifecycle assumptions against your current field costs and expected use.

What should we send for an initial budget?

Share the project location, sport, approximate dimensions, photos, current surface, known drainage issues, target opening date and funding status. Tell us whether you want a full-field or partial-field option. An initial budget is a planning estimate; a firm scope requires site-specific review.
